About me

Chris Rosas (b.1999) is a Hispanic-Latino performer and educator coming from San Antonio, Texas. Chris is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Percussion Performance at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. By doing so, he was awarded the Graduate Teaching Assistantship for the UT Percussion Studio under Dr. Andy Bliss and Kevin Zetina in the College of Music.

In the Spring of 2022, Chris graduated from Texas Lutheran University with his Bachelor of Music in Music Education. After graduation he served as a full-time Percussion Specialist at William Howard Taft High School in San Antonio, TX to help drive the success of the percussion program under Jeremy Chapman. His employment was to serve as the lead Front Ensemble Technician for the 6A Taft Raider Marching Band, Private Percussion instructor for all percussion students within the cluster, Daily Masterclass Instructor, and Beginning Percussion Class Educator.

Chris is also the founder of the "Percussion Homies Project". The project is an informal approach aiming to facilitate discussions with percussion graduate students to college professors and everything in between about the personal identities of percussionists and the challenges they faced in becoming who they are. It distinguishes itself from traditional pedagogical podcasts by fostering an informal atmosphere where personal stories and experiences take center stage. The term "Homies" encapsulates the project's vibe of camaraderie, aiming to encourage guests to candidly share their unique journeys.

During his time as a high school student, Mr. Rosas was a member of 5points Independent Percussion for two seasons under the direction of Kris Hartman and Matt Ferry. During those two seasons the group received a gold medal for the TCGC Championships, TECA Championships, and placing as a finalist for the Winter Guard International Championships held in the prestige Dayton Arena every year.

In his Undergraduate studies Mr. Rosas received a wide range of percussion education under Dr. Trent Shuey (Angelo State University), Dr. Gordon Hicken (Midwestern State University – Great Plains Percussion Group), and Adam Bedell (Texas Lutheran University – Line Upon Line Percussion). As a performer he played in his universities top Wind Ensembles as Principal Percussionist, Symphony Orchestra as Principal timpanist, and the percussion ensembles. He also was the assistant section leader and center snare drummer for the Angelo State University Ram Band (Marching band) in the fall of 2018 and was the lead drum set performer that toured with the Angelo State University Ram Horns pep band ensemble.

In the summer of 2021, Mr. Rosas won an audition to be a member of the 2021 National Intercollegiate Band that had some of the best collegiate musicians in the country from the undergraduate to doctoral level. In that ensemble the group premiered Alex Shapiro’s symphony “SUSPENDED” conducted by Dr. Cynthia Turner from Wilford Laurier School of Music. The performance was held at the 2021 Kappa Kappa Psi & Tau Beta Sigma National convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan where the concert was performed live in the DeVos Performance Hall

Chris Rosas is happily enjoying life outside of percussion with his lovely wife Maddie Rosas as they just celebrated their 1-year anniversary this past April. They both can be found rooting for all things Tennessee or at home binge watching 911 with their mixed dachshunds Lacey and Trevor.
